FAQ

How many guests are you expecting?  Are you going to limit the number of guests?

(this is the answer to a guest specifically asking whether we were limiting the size to 50 on the BGG forums):
The simple answer is we don't intend to limit the size of Teton Con, but we reserve the right to. Should we limit the size, we expect it to be well over 50.

The complex answer starts with the fact that Teton Con is seeing significantly more attention and interest than we initially expected this early on. Fast growth is exciting, but it can also be disasterous if not handled properly. There are two things that are really important to us for Teton Con. #1 That we provide the guests what they expected and what we promised. #2 That Teton Con grows into a special convention that is a highlight of guest's gaming experiences.

We never wanted Teton Con to be a traditional gaming convention, instead we wanted a relaxing vacation experience where guests of all types (singles, couples and families) can do as much or as little gaming as they'd like. For a traditional gaming convention where people schedule their days around the events, 50 people would be too few, but at Teton Con we schedule the tours, add-on adventures and events such that the most number of people are available all at the same time. We are specially crafting events to not just work with a smaller number of guests, but to shine with a smaller number.

We are in Teton Con for the long haul and believe that providing our guests an exceptional service is the best way to foster positive growth. That being said, more is generally better in gaming and we are ready and willing to exceed 50 guests so long as the growth is natural and preserves the experience we intend to deliver for our guests. However, we expect that number would be well over 50. The resort can handle hundreds of guests.

How does the rooming work?  We are going to share a condo?

Yes, the couples, double/triple occupancy and singles will be matched with similar guests and share a Condo.  Couples will have private rooms with at least a queen sized bed.  Singles will have a private room.  Double occupancy guests will share a room with two twin beds or have separate rooms.  Triple occupancy guests will either share a room or have separate rooms.  Rooms in the condos will be assigned by the Teton Con staff prior to arrival and are at their sole discretion.   Groups will all be placed in the same condo.  Families will be housed in private condos that are sized appropriately.  Private condos are available, but will significantly increase the price for couples and singles/doubles/triples.  If you have specific rooming requests, put them in your reservation information or contact us.

Sharing condos seems a little strange, what's the deal?

We agree it isn't the typical rooming option, but Teton Con isn't the typical vacation.  We strongly believe that this rooming scenario will create a superior experience for a few reasons:

#1 Gaming conventions are a social experience and Teton Con will rely on that even more than usual.  Without the thousands of guests many Con's draw it's important that guests feel comfortable with the other guests.  Sharing condos provides a way for you to immediately connect with some of the guests.

#2 Jackson is a high-end vacation destination and even the cheap housing options are not cheap.  This is the best way of providing great accommodations at reasonable prices (reasonable being subjective).

#3 It allows us to provide the guests with food.  Paying for three meals a day adds up quickly and can also eat up a lot of time.  Gaming is also snack and drink intensive.   There are great places to eat in Jackson and we highly suggest you enjoy them, but we want to make sure that the guests spend more time enjoying the destination and the gaming and less time traipsing around finding an over priced bagel.

#4 The honest truth is that you won't be spending all that much time in your condo.  If you are coming to Teton Con to sit around your living room... you are missing the point.  How much time did you spend in the room at your last Con?  Now add Jackson, Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks to the mix.

Is Teton Con for real?  Is this a scam?

Yes Teton Con is for real, no this isn't a scam.  If that is your concern, which is very valid this day in age, and you are interested in attending we recommend you contact us and we can point you towards some public records and contacts involved with the convention that may provide you with reassurance.  If that doesn't convince you we aren't too worried, we are in this for the long haul and will love to see you at Teton Con 2014.
